Event Regulations

The Scottish Open is open to all players of all standards aged 18 and above. Players aged 14-17 may enter open and youth events but they must be accompanied by an appropriate adult and their entry for any open event must be approved by the Championships Director.

Players may only play in one rating category per event. Where the rating categories are amalgamated, or if a player’s doubles partner is a different rating, players must play in the higher rating category.  Players will self-select their rating and should do so honourably, fairly and in the spirit of the game.  For information about ratings,

Players may only play a maximum of one event per day, with the exception of Thursday, where players may enter men’s doubles and singles. Players are limited to a maximum of 3 events in the championships and can only enter either open or age group doubles events, not both.

For the age group and youth events, players' age is considered as at 23:59 on 31 December 2024.

Youth events – 14 to 17 years

Age group events – 50 & over

Because of limitations with number of courts, some rating categories are amalgamated (see the entry form for details). The organisers reserve the right to make further changes to the rating categories if required.
The organisers reserve the right not to hold an event, or to amalgamate ratings if insufficient entries are received.  Entries for each event will be closed once maximum numbers are reached – entries received are accepted on a first-come basis.
Both players in a doubles event must submit an entry.  Players entering ‘partner wanted’ will be paired if a partner is available.

Each event will be run in round-robin groups; thus, all players should play a minimum of three matches per event dependant on the number of entries. Winners and runners-up of each group will go forward to a knock-out stage if numbers are sufficient.

The tournament will be played in accordance with the USPA 2024 Rules. Details of these can be found

.                                 Specific amendments to particular rules (court size, match scoring, ball type etc.) for the Scottish Open will be published prior to the tournament.
